Important Information for Parents

Notice to Parents of Students using the Sewickley Public Library of the Quaker Valley School District:

COMPUTER USE AT THE SEWICKLEY PUBLIC LIBRARY – New computer use rules are in place at the Sewickley Public Library for children and teens.  Weekdays between 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. children and teens, with permission from the librarian, may use the computers for homework and for checking email messages from parents or guardians only.  Since the Sewickley Public Library is owned by the school district, school rules and regulations apply to after school computer use.  Neither the school district nor the library can support computer use for other purposes. The goal is for the library to be used appropriately and for it to be a safe place for children to come after school – not a place to hang out for socializing, rough housing or for childcare until parents or guardians return home. Instead, programs such as the YMCA Homework and Recreation Club at QVMS can meet parents' needs for after school supervised activities.

Here are eight other rules that students using the library must follow at ALL times:

  1. Do not touch another person for any reason.
  2. No swearing in the library.
  3. One person per chair.
  4. No food or drink allowed in the Teen Room and no drinks allowed near any computer.
  5. Do not threaten the safety of another person whether patron or staff.
  6. One person per computer unless working on a group assignment. Permission needs to be granted in these special circumstances.
  7. Do not in any way disturb those patrons who are reading, working on homework, in a tutoring session, or using a computer.
  8. No sexually explicit or graphically violent material should ever be accessed by the library’s computers. If any such material appears on your screen, you will be banned from computer usage for one week or more.
